With such a constantly evolving sector as space, having a clear strategy is vital. Space Scotland’s space strategy serves several purposes, but its primary aim is to guide the Scottish space industry’s goals into the next decade and beyond. This report defines the visions, ambitions and opportunities of the sector, while outlining a feasible plan to combine these elements for success.

As a key opportunity for economic growth, the Scottish space sector has ambitious plans for the future. As such, the Scottish Space Strategy has highlighted sustainability as a key part of the nation’s approach to space. To support this mission, Space Scotland, alongside AstroAgency Ltd and Optimat Ltd, have created the Space Sustainability Roadmap to address the need for sustainable practices in the sector.

This status report provides a comprehensive review of the progress on Scotland’s Space Sustainability Roadmap, detailing actions completed, ongoing initiatives, and lessons learned since the original publication. The report highlights Scotland’s growing international recognition as a credible voice in sustainable space activity, documents key achievements across leadership, in-orbit environment protection, and net-zero commitments. Furthermore, it outlines the path forward for continuing Scotland’s role as a global leader in space sustainability. This update demonstrates the collective efforts of industry, academia, government, and volunteers in advancing Scotland’s ambition for responsible space sector growth.

Sustainability is both a major challenge and a powerful opportunity for Scotland’s growing space sector, as the country works to lead in sustainable development. To showcase this, Space Scotland—along with Scottish Enterprise, the Space Scotland Environmental Task Force, and AstroAgency Ltd.—has created a collection of Case Studies. These highlight how space companies across Scotland are finding innovative and practical ways to reduce their environmental impact and help build a more sustainable future for the space industry.

The Space Sector EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) Guidance Roadmap by Space Scotland and New Voices in Space has been carefully put together to provide a better understanding of what can be done in the sector to promote inclusivity and variety. It explores the importance of building an inclusive work culture, ethical working practices and diverse teams within a company, and gives suggestions on best methods to improve this.
